Dream Interpretation | Running to Stand Still
Dreams are healing.
If you want to be free in your heart and feel true happiness and freedom from things that haunt you or keep you locked in place time after time, look to the gift that is with you every night.
Dreams are powerful.
When we interpret our dreams we are reaching deep inside to a place that can often be drowned out by the noise of everyday life.
To steal a few lines from a beautiful U2 song “Running to Stand Still” …
You can cry without weeping in your dreams because it is safe to do so.
…because your dreams are showing you what’s going on inside you so that you can acknowledge it and so that you don’t need to go through the pain of trying to keep strong emotions inside that can overwhelm and cloud your beautiful soul.
You can talk without speaking because your dreams give you visions that don’t need words.
…how perfect that our dreams communicate to us through beautiful images and show us our life in an extra-special and extra-sensory way. We literally don’t need words in our dreams, how amazing is that!
You can scream without raising your voice because you are safe to experience how you are really feeling.
…experiencing strong emotions in your dreams allows you to process those emotions and actually aids you in letting go of what is causing you pain. You can walk through the emotions without needing to keep them locked inside to manifest in negative and destructive ways in your waking life. When you interpret your dreams, you are listening to your true inner ‘Self’; observing how you are feeling and acknowledging those emotions that can seem overwhelming.
When you acknowledge and learn about those emotions that seem overwhelming, you start to lessen the fear that those emotions can bring out.
You discover that which needs to be uncovered and then you can breathe a little lighter and know yourself better and can heal.
Run loudly in your dreams so you can stand still within your heart and be free.
And so she woke up, woke up from where she was
This post has been inspired by a song that has been stuck inside my head for days… A beautiful and haunting song by U2 called “Running to Stand Still” from their Joshua Tree album.
Here are the lyrics:
And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was
Said I gotta do something
About where we’re going
Step on a steam train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing ha, ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day
Ah la la de day
Sweet the sin
Bitter taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out
You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice
You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here
Singing…ha la la la de day
Ha la la la de day
Ha la la de day
She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
Suffer the needle chill
She’s running to stand…
Although this song was originally written about addiction, it has since become an anthem for overcoming personal challenges. In a Time Magazine article it was said of the song: “a trancelike melody that slips over the transom of consciousness, insinuates itself into your dreams.“ – How fitting!
